Ford Mustang Cobra Jet Twin Turbo

 »  »  »

Ford revealed the new Mustang Cobra Jet Twin-Turbo at the 2012 SEMA show in Las Vegas. To get more performance and efficiency out of the engine of the Mustang Cobra Jet, Ford replaced its supercharger with a Twin-Turbo system, inspired from the production EcoBoost engine. Unfortunately, Ford's press release says what the new Mustang Cobra Jet does not have, instead of offering the new version's specifications. We assume it continues to be powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine that, as the name implies, has two turbochargers strapped to it. Ford did not disclose any performance figures, nor the Mustang Cobra Jet Twin-Turbo's horsepower and torque output. Ford's new twin turbocharged Mustang Cobra Jet shows a new livery and apparently a modified aerodynamic package.

The drag racer's new turbos come from a Focus ST and have been manufactured by Borg-Warner. Their wheels are made from titanium aluminide, which is able to reduce inertia by up to 50 percent, and they come with low-friction ball bearings. The new Cobra Jet is also equipped with electronically controlled wastegates.

We'll have more details on the Ford Mustang Cobra Jet Twin Turbo, including its price, as soon as they're available.
