Sunday night, after the Turkish Grand Prix the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA) has decided to drop the KERS system in 2010. This decision was taken because of the cost of the system's development. However, not all the teams agreed to this decision. Mario Theissen from BMW voted against dropping the KERS system.
The current FIA regulations do not make the KERS system mandatory, so if the FOTA teams stop using it, it will be dropped altogether.
McLaren and Ferrari are the teams which invested the most in the development of KERS, but Stefano Domenicali, the boss at Ferrari, said he was happy with this decision.
The KERS system was introduced in Formula One this season and it looks like it will not be used next year.
