The Mustang by Giugiaro concept takes part to Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2007
It could be the Ford Mustang of the future.

It could be the Ford Mustang of the future. A concept developed by Fabrizio Giugiaro, Co-Chairman and Styling Director of

Italdesign Giugiaro Spa, as a remake of Ford’s “pony car”, entirely carried out in virtual mode, orange painted and unique in the world.

The Ford Mustang by Giugiaro is the second experience of the famous Italian designer among the icons of the American auto industry. The previous had been the Chevrolet Corvette Moray, launched in March 2003 with great success. This particular car, taken from the popular sports concept invented by Lee Iacocca in 1964, was an idea laying in Fabrizio Giugiaro’s mind for some time.

At the beginning of 2005 he already discussed it with J. Mays, group vice president of Design and Chief Creative Officer of Ford Motor Company, who accepted the proposal.

The first preview took place in Pebble Beach the same year and the official unveiling was at the 2006 LA Auto Show. Distinctive features of the Mustang by Giugiaro concept are the scissor doors, hinged at the base of upright A pillar, with a vertical automatic opening and electrically operated, the typical Italian exceeding wheel arches, the single curved glass panel bridging the windshield and rear window

towards an almost non existing tail and the cameras instead of the rear-mirrors. The engine is a 4.6-liter V-8, now supercharged by a Whipple/Ford Racing blower that enhances up to 500 HP and is coupled with a mechanical 5-gear transmission.
