Gordon Murray Design, together with Toray Industries Inc, announced today their new electric sports car concept, called the Teewave AR.1 . Gordon Murray's Toray Teewave AR.1 measures 3,975 mm in length, 1,765 mm in width, 1,154 mm in height and has a 2,610 mm wheelbase. The Teewave AR.1 is built on a carbon fiber monocoque chassis with aluminum sub frames, which make it extremely light. The Teewave AR.1 weighs only 850 kg. The new prototype features carbon fiber crash structures and body panels, advanced aerodynamics featuring a full length under tray with ground effect and a diffuser.

To power the Teewave AR.1, Toray and Gordon Murray chose a permanent magnet synchronous motor, mounted in the middle, which is mated to a

single speed transmission, and a lithium-ion battery. Toray's AR.1 has an output of 47 kW and 180 Nm, which is sent to the rear wheels.

In terms of performance, the Toray Teewave AR.1 is expected to accelerate from 0 to 50 km/h in 4.4 seconds, and to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 11.4 seconds. The top speed of the AR.1 is rated at 147 km. Toray says that the Teewave AR.1 has a range of up to 186 km, and that it requires 6 hours to fully re-charge.

The Toray Teewave AR.1 price list will be announced at a later date.
