Mercedes unveiled this week the latest addition to their van range - the Citan. The Mercedes Citan is a small van, which will be available in three lengths and three versions, with comprehensive safety equipment and a range of BlueEFFICIENCY engines with low fuel consumption. The Citan will be available as a Compact (3.94 m), Long (4.32 m), and Extra-long (4.71 m) van. It will be powered by a range of turbodiesel direct-injection engines, with outputs ranging from 75hp (55kW) to 110hp (81kW). The Citan will also be available with a petrol engine, which has an output of 115 hp (84kW). For extra efficiency, Mercedes is able to equip the Citan with a start/stop function, battery and generator management, and low rolling resistance tires.
Apart from good fuel efficiency, the Citan also offers long service intervals of up to 40,000 km or two years.
The transmission options offered by the Citan include 5- and 6-speed gearboxes, with a joystick gearshift located on the center console.
The largest and heaviest Citan, the Extra-long, weighs 2200 kilograms. This version will also be available as a five-seat vehicle called the Citan Mixto.
The Mixto has a folding rear seat bench, a wire mesh partition and two sliding doors. The two rear-end doors of the Mercedes Citan can be replaced upon request with a tailgate. Roof rails and a ladder hatch are also offered as an optional extra.
Mercedes equips the Citan with a range of equipment meant to make the driver's life a little bit easier behind the wheel. It includes the Start-off Assist system, height-adjustable seat belts, belt tensioners and belt force limiters. Up to six airbags protect the driver and passengers in case of an unfortunate event. Apart from the loading area, the Mercedes Citan also offers several other storage facilities. They include a glove compartment, a stowage compartment between the seats, and an overhead stowage.
The Mercedes Citan offers a comprehensive range of factory versions, but it can also handle special superstructures made by bodybuilders. With this goal in mind, Mercedes equipped the Citan with a special interface and a parameterisable special module.
The Mercedes Citan comes with a long list of safety equipment, which includes ADAPTIVE ESP, ABS, VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control), TCS (Traction Control System), and ASR (Acceleration Skid Control).
