Mercedes revealed today the new S500 Plug-in Hybrid, which is going to have its world premiere at the 2013 Frankfurt auto show. The Mercedes S500 Hybrid is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged petrol engine and an electric synchronous motor (80 kW/340 Nm of torque). The total output of the S500 hybrid is rated at 480 nm of torque. With this powertrain, the German high-end luxury saloon can accelerate from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.5 seconds and it can reach a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). In comparison to Merc's previous hybrids, the new S500 comes with a few novelties. For instance, its internal combustion engine can be completely decoupled from the electric motor. The hybrid S500 comes with the second-generation recuperative braking system and the anticipatory Intelligent HYBRID energy management system.

The hybrid Mercedes S500 has a range on electric-only mode of up to 30 km. The new efficient S500 offers four hybrid driving modes: HYBRID, E-MODE, E-SAVE and CHARGE. In the first mode, the S500 hybrid has a fuel economy of 3 litres per 100 kilometers and a 69 g/km CO2 emissions level.

The Mercedes S500 Hybrid's price and availability are going to be announced at a later date.
