Pininfarina Cambiano

The Pininfarina Cambiano concept had its world debut in Geneva yesterday, offering an insight into the latest developments of the Italian design house. The Cambiano has a rather unusual layout, featuring a single door on the driver's side and two on the other. Its powertrain is just as unconventional as its body type. The Pininfarina Cambiano is powered by four electric motors developed by Magneti Marelli, one for each wheel. When more electricity is need, the Pininfarina Cambiano fires up a range extender unit, consisting of a 50 kW Bladon Jets micro turbine, which runs on diesel. The turbine can be modified to run on pretty much any type of fuel though. The Pininfarina Cambiano has a total output of 600 kW (800 hp) and 640 Nm of torque. This is serious power we're talking here.

Pininfarina says that the Cambiano concept is able to get from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.2 seconds and that it can reach a top speed of 275 km/h.

In the electric-only mode, the Cambiano has a maximum range of 205 km, but if you turn on the range extender turbine, it can run for over 800 km. It requires 6 hours to fully re-charge from a regular socket. However, the Cambiano also comes with an integrated APU (Auxiliary Power Unit), which cuts that time down to 52 minutes.

The Pininfarina Cambiano offers several driving modes, including Ecocity, Snow/Ice, Efficiency,
Sport, and Drifting. We bet you didn't expect drifting, didn't you?

Pininfarina's Cambiano has very generous dimensions, but at the same time, it has a relatively low weight. The Cambiano is 5040 mm in length, 2000 mm in width and 1360 mm in height. It weighs 1695 kg and offers a 450-liter boot. The Cambiano is also extremely aerodynamics, having a Cd of just 0.28.

Some of Pininfarina Cambiano's distinctive exterior design features include the LED headlights and its gigantic panoramic glass roof. At the interior, the Cambiano is the first vehicle to feature a contemporary video-art projection, which was created by Javier Fernandez. Its upholstery is made from Foglizzo leather while its floor and lower part of the cabin are made from recycled wood. The Pininfarina Cambiano features a special Chronograph, which is embedded in its dashboard. This timepiece is made by Swiss watchmaker Bovet 1822 and can be removed from the car.

Pininfarina went so far with the Cambiano concept that even manufactured bespoke tires. For this they worked with Fate, which is the largest Argentinean tire manufacturer.

So far, the Pininfarina Cambiano has not been scheduled for production. The full details and specifications of the Cambiano concept can be found here.
