Rome: Fiat 500 And Smart Fortwo For 16 Year Olds

 »  »  »

European drivers could be allowed to drive cars on public roads starting from their 16th birthday. Apparently, the Mayor of Rome wants to allow 16 year olds to drive two small models - the Fiat 500 and the Smart Fortwo - on the streets of his city. for our north American readers, the legal driving limit in Europe is 18. Yes, drivers in Europe are not so fortunate. But if Gianni Alemanno, the Mayor of Rome gets things his way, the legal driving limit in EU could drop to 16.

The announcement that he wants to let 16 year olds drive the Fiat 500 and the Smart Fortwo on public roads was made at an event that was aimed at road safety. He doesn't want to limit the range of cars 16 year olds will be able to drive

to just the Fiat 500 and the Smart Fortwo. He wants them to be able to use any small displacement vehicle.

However, there's a catch, if they want to drive these cars at such a young age, their top speed would have to be limited. We guess the limit will be very low.
