Skoda revealed today their new city car, called the Citigo, which will be launched in Europe and the UK next summer. The Skoda Citigo is the Czech car manufacturer's sixth model, which they will launch on their home market towards the end of this year. The Citigo Skoda is a three door small hatchback, measuring 3,563 mm in length, 1,641 mm in width and 1,478 mm in height. You'll be able to buy the Skoda Citigo with a 1.0-liter MPI engine, which will be available in two power levels: 44 kW between 5,000 and 6,000 rpm with 95 Nm of torque between 3,000 and 4,300 rpm, and 55 kW at 6,200 rpm with the same amount of torque. Both version of the Citigo will come with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Skoda says that the Citigo will offer a 251-liter

(951-liter with the rear seats folded) storage capacity and a 929 kg payload, including the driver.

In terms of performance, the low power Citigo has a top speed of 99 mph and a 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) acceleration time of 13.9 seconds, while the high power one has a maximum speed of 106 mph and a 12.7 seconds 0-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint time. Skoda rates the low power Citigo with a 62.8 mpg combined (1999/100/EC) fuel consumption and a 105 g/km CO2 emissions, while the 55 kW version

gets 60.1 mpg with 108 g/km of CO2.

Skoda assures us that the Citigo, which is basically a Volkswagen Up with a different exterior and interior design, will offer plenty of space for four passengers. We're sure it will be appropriate for driving four people on short city trips, but we bet it will get a bit uncomfortable on long journeys. The interior of the Skoda Citigo offers countless storage spaces, cup holders and a multimedia system. As a distinctive element, Skoda equipped the Citigo with a photograph holder on the central console.

The Skoda Citigo will come with a portable navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity, and a 5-inch touch screen.

The safety systems of the Citigo include a Head-Thorax side airbag, and the 'City Safe Drive' active safety system. Citigo's new active safety system is basically a brake assistance system which uses a laser sensor to stop the car, when necessary, at speeds below 30 km/h.

The Skoda Citigo price list will be announced at a later date.
