Skoda Octavia vRS Bonneville Breaks Speed Record

Skoda announced that the Octavia vRS Bonneville managed to breaks the land speed record for the 2.0-litre forced induction production cars. The British modified Skoda Octavia vRS Bonneville managed to set the new record at 227.070 mph, or 365.42 km/h. This is just 40 km/h short of a Bugatti Veyron! The record run took place on Utah's legendary Bonneville Salt Flats, in the United States. The previous record of the G/PS category was 216 mph and it was set back in August 1998.

Richard Meaden, a journalists, drove the Bonneville Octavia vRS on the five-mile course at 225.513 mph on Thursday 18 August. The return run took place on Friday 19 August, at a speed of 228.647 mph.

The Skoda UK team, which is based in Milton Keynes, worked together with REVO Technik to develop the Bonneville Octavia vRS. The car underwent rigorous dyno tests, and received performance software and tuning from REVO.

Robert Hazelwood, Director for SKODA UK, said: "This is a truly stunning achievement. Our goal was to break 200 mph as a celebration of 10 years of vRS, and we have achieved that, and significantly more. The success is a tribute to everyone who has worked so tirelessly and with such passion to make SKODA a world beater."
