Today's rumor is that VW will unveil a performance version of the new diesel Golf at this year's AMI show in Leipzig - the Volkswagen Golf VI GTD. Apparently, the Volkswagen Golf VI GTD will offer about the same performance as the new GTI, but will not offer the same level of equipment.

The Volkswagen Golf VI GTD will be powered by a 2.0 TDI commonrail diesel engine developing 170 hp and offering the new model a 0 to 100 km/h sprint of 8.2 seconds. The top speed of the Volkswagen Golf VI GTD will be around 220 km/h.

In terms of design, the Volkswagen Golf VI GTD will feature a rear diffuser and will sit on 17" alloy wheels.

The Volkswagen Golf VI GTD is not the first generation to offer such a version, as the first, second and third all had them.
