Volkswagen Reveals Golf Customer Race Car For TCR Series

 »  »  »

Volkswagen revealed this week this new Golf customer race car, which complies with the TCR regulations. The Volkswagen Golf TCR is currently just a concept. VW intends to use the Golf TCR to evaluate the potential of a customer racing program, which is scheduled to start sometime next year. Liqui Moly Team Engstler is going to race two of these Golfs at the Touringcar Racer International Series (TCR) at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg (A). The Volkswagen Golf TCR concept is based on the seventh generation of the popular hatchback. It is powered by the same 2.0-liter turbocharged engine as the VW Golf R and it develops 330 hp (243 kW) and 410 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a DSG transmission. Volkswagen says that the new Golf racer comes with a stiffer chassis, which was developed in collaboration with Seat's sport department.

This could mean that it borrows some of the elements found in the Leon Cup Racer.

The Volkswagen Golf TCR is 40 centimeters wider than the regular version of the model and it comes with 18-inch alloys. It features a wide body kit, new front and rear aprons, a rear diffuser, a massive rear wing, new side skirts, and vented bonnet. At the interior, the VW Golf TCR features a single sport bucket seat, a roll cage, and all the other motorsport equipment you would expect to find in a FIA compliant race car.

We will have more details about the Golf TCR as soon as Volkswagen makes them available.
