CDC Volkswagen Golf Carbon Roof

CDC International Gmbh announced today that they are able to offer a carbon fiber roof for all the versions of the Volkswagen Golf VI and V. The roof is a pretty heavy piece of the car, which means that replacing it with a carbon fiber one would greatly reduce the weight of the car. However, this will also impact its weight distribution and its balance. CDC says that they manufacture the new carbon roof for the VW Golf using Formula 1 technology. They use a 3D laser scanner to get the measurements for the car's original roof, and then they built a prototype. The customer can choose a preferred CFRP structure and CDC says that the new one is not going to affect the car's structure.

Apart from the Golf, CDC say they can also offer carbon fiber roofs for the BMW M3 / E46 / E92 / M6 / M5 / E60, the Audi A3 / A4 / A5 / A7 / TT / R8 and the Mercedes C-Class / E-Class / S-Class. The prices for these parts have not been announced, however, the one of the VW Golf is going to cost you 899 EUR.
