According to a recent rumor, Carroll Shelby is working on an extreme version of the Shelby GT500. One which will be fit to mark its retirement. Apparently, this version of the Shelby GT500 will be powered by his 5.4-liter V8 engine that will receive a twin turbos and will output 1,000 hp (746 kW).

The 1000 hp Shelby GT500 will have other extreme modifications, to be able to manage such high levels of output. The 1000 hp Shelby GT500 will be fitted with huge brakes, developed by the American tuner in collaboration with Baer, featuring 6-piston calipers for both the front and the rear axle. The suspension of the 1000 hp Shelby GT500 will most probably also receive some major upgrades. Our sources also report that the

1000 hp Shelby GT500 will benefit from a roll-cage, drag axles, and a unique driveshaft.

The engine of the 1000 hp Shelby GT500 will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox with a short-throw shifter. The car will be equipped with 20 inch alloys from Alcoa, a dual fuel system and a vented hood. For that extra street credit, the 1000 hp Shelby GT500 will have a wide body kit, numerous carbon fiber parts and sport bucket seats.
