Various sources are reporting today that the new generation 2012 BMW M5 managed a record Nurburgring lap time of 7 minutes and 55 seconds. This is unofficial information and it hasn't been confirmed by any BMW representative. Apparently, the record was set by one of BMW's test drivers, who simply crushed the previous 8:13 time. Is this info is correct, it means that the 2012 M5 Bimmer is only a fraction slower than a Ferrari F430, which is definitely in the supercar category.

The 7:55 Nordschleife lap time says that the new 2012 BMW M5 is the 70th fastest production model in the world. In fact the 2012 M5 managed a better Nurburgring lap time than the latest Porsche 911 Turbo.

The 2012 BMW M5 is powered by a twin turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 with an output of 560 hp and 680 Nm of torque. The engine of the new M5 sends the power to the rear wheels via a 7-speed M Double Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic. Earlier rumors saying that the 2012 M5 will be equipped with all-wheel-drive and a manual gearbox turned out to be just that, rumors.
