BMW finally revealed today the 2012 BMW M5 F10, releasing the full details of the new high performance sedan, together with a huge image gallery. AS previously announced, the 2012 BMW M5 is powered by a 4.4-litre V8 engine equipped with the M TwinPower Turbo package that includes the Twin Scroll Twin Turbo, a cross-bank exhaust manifold, direct petrol injection and VALVETRONIC fully variable valve control. BMW's official specifications say that the 2012 M5 develops 412 kW/560 hp between 6,000 rpm and 7,000 rpm and 680 Nm (502 lb-ft) of torque from 1,500 rpm. Another point BMW wants to make is that the 2012 M5 does not have turbo lag.

In terms of performance, the 2012 M5 Bimmer accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in

4.4 seconds and from 0 to 0–200 km/h (124 mph) in 13.0 seconds. The top speed of the new generation 2012 BMW M5 is electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h). However, BMW is offering the M Driver’s Package which removes the limiter, so the 2012 M5 can reach a maximum speed of 190 mph (305 km/h).

BMW's official efficiency figures for the 2012 M5 say it can offer a fuel economy of up to 28.5 mpg with a 232 g/km CO2 emissions level.

With the 2012 M5, BMW went for a rear-wheel-drive system, powered via a 7-speed M Double Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic and shift paddles, that features several new systems, including Launch Control, traction-optimized automatic gear selection and Low Speed Assistance. The gearbox of the 2012 BMW M5 offers two driving modes: manual (S) and fully automated (D).

The equipment list of the 2012 BMW M5 includes the Active M Differential for the rear axle, which offers a degree of lock can be varied between 0 and 100%. The 2012 M5 also comes with M Servotronic steering, Dynamic Damper Control,

and the DSC stability control system with an M Dynamic Mode.

The standard equipment list of the 2012 M5 Bimmer includes a Head-Up Display, 19-inch M light-alloy wheels, a gurney-style rear spoiler, Adaptive Xenon Headlights, High-Beam Assistant, Night Vision with pedestrian recognition, Lane Change Warning System, Lane Departure Warning System, and Surround View. if you find yourself bored while driving the 2012 M5, which we doubt it will happen, BMW is offering an extended integration of smartphones and music players.

To increase the efficiency of the 2012 M5, BMW fitted it with Brake Energy Regeneration, Efficient Dynamics technology and an Auto Start-Stop function.

The 2012 BMW M5 price list for UK, where the new super saloon will go on sale in November 2011, starts at 73,040 GBP. The price for the other European countries and the USA will be announced at a later date.

2012 BMW M5 in detail

In terms of exterior styling, the 2012 M5 Bimmer has several distinctive features in comparison to the standard 5 Series. These unique styling cues include the trademark four-tailpipe exhaust system and the air vents integrated in each of the front fenders. Each of these air intakes features a chromed surrounding frame, an indicator bar and of course, the M logo. Apart from these two elements, the 2012 BMW M5 also comes with a new front bumper, with large air intakes on each side, aerodynamics aids above each of the double tailpipes, a rear diffuser integrated into the rear bumper and a very discreet rear wing mounted on the boot lid. This small and unassuming rear wing offers the 2012 M5 a surprisingly large amount of downforce on the rear axle at high speed, but at the same time, it increases its fuel consumption and slightly reduces the high performance sedan's maximum speed.

The 2012 BMW M5 sits on standard 19-inch M light-alloy wheels with a double-spoke design.

Regarding the interior of the 2012 BMW M5, all we rally have to say is that it has the M button, which is the one responsible for transforming a quite, relaxed 5 Series, into a beast. The interior of the new M5 offers a Merino leather upholstery, aluminum accents, an Anthracite BMW Individual roof liner and a leather-covered center console. The are also countless M logos scattered around the cockpit. The aluminum door sills bare the M5 mark, and the car features an M driver's foot rest.

The interior equipment of the 2012 M5 includes the well-known iDrive control system with a 10.2-inch display, and a Head-Up Display. The M Driver button mentioned earlier, which is mounted on the steering wheel, controls the M5's accelerator responses, M Servotronic responses, Drivelogic shift program, DSC mode, and the Dynamic Damper Control. BMW set the parameters of all these systems in order for the M5 to offer a maximum of performance. apart from the high performance mode, the M5 also offers the M2 mode, which will transform the car into a much more comfortable and relaxed machine.

BMW improved the M5 quite a lot with the help of the new engine, which is able to offer 10% more power and 30% torque in comparison to the previous version, and at the same time, require 30% less fuel. During unofficial tests, conducted on the Nurburgring Nordschleife race track in Germany, the 2012 M5 managed to set a 7 minutes and 55 seconds lap time. This puts it in front of the Cadillac CTS-V, the Porsche's Panamera Turbo, and the 911 Turbo. The 2012 M5 Bimmer is 0.18 seconds faster that the previous record for a 4-door sedan and almost matches the time set by the Ferrari F430. Part of M5's success on the 'Green Hell' is its new suspension system, which features, for the first time, has a double-wishbone system at the front and multilink one at the rear axle. We're still waiting for BMW's official Nurburgring lap time for the 2012 M5.

The 2012 M5's rivals list includes the 2012 Mercedes E63 AMG sedan, the 2012 Jaguar XF-R facelift, and the American Cadillac CTS-V. The 2010 Mercedes E63 AMG develops 518 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque, the latest generation 2012 Jaguar XFR Facelift is good for 510 PS and 625 Nm, and the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V has an output of 550 hp and 747 Nm of torque. So, the 2012 M5 has to face some serious competition. We'll have to wait for the first reviews to see if the new generation M car will deliver the performance we expect.

The world premiere of the 2012 BMW M5 will take place in September 2011, at the IAA Frankfurt auto show.
