Video: 2012 BMW M5 vs BMW S1000 RR

 »  »  »

In this new video, two of BMW's most capable vehicles, the 2012 BMW M5 and the BMW S1000 RR Superbike, go head-to-head in battle on the racetrack. Priced at just 12,250 GBP, the BMW S1000 RR offers 193 bhp from a 999-cc engine. We say "just" because the 2012 M5 is priced in Britain at 73,000 GBP. The "almost" 200 horsepowers of the S1000 RR do not seem like much in comparison to M5's 552 bhp, but the bike weighs just 178 kg. BMW's official specifications say that the S1000 RR is able to rocket from zero to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds. The 2012 M5's 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 is able to accelerate the car from zero to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds.

Even though the bike is a whole lot faster than the M5 in a straight line, the M5 is able to brake later and it has higher cornering speeds.

Watch the 2012 BMW M5 race the BMW S1000 RR on Cadwell Park's wet circuit in the video below.
