BMW released today a new video of the latest generation 2012 M5, showing the performance sedan in action on the race track. Although the 2012 BMW M5 prototype featured in the clip is still covered with some camouflage tape, the German car manufacturer does disclose a few new facts about the car. BMW will offer the 2012 M5 F10 with the traditional RWD, but it will also make it available with a four-wheel-drive system.

The 2012 BMW M5 will be powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. Most sources believe the 2012 M5 will develop more than 570 hp, but none of these figures have been officially confirmed yet. What we do know is that BMW will sell the 2012 M5 with a choice between a manual transmission and a 7-speed DCT gearbox.

In terms of exterior design, the new M5 production version will bare close resemblance to the 2012 BMW M5 Concept premiered back in April at the Shanghai auto show.
