Abarth Coupe Announced

 »  »  »

Antonino Labate, the company's head of sales and marketing, in an interview with Autocar, announced the fact that their are currently developing a stand-alone Abarth coupe model. The new Abarth coupe will be a new model, developed from scratch, and will not be based on any of the Fiat Group's cars. Labate also denied the rumors that the new Abarth coupe will be based on a Lotus model, or that it will use technology from the Elise.

The new Abarth coupe will be a two-seater and the company hopes to put it on sale in two years time. This will be the first model build entirely by Abarth in more than 30 years. The brand was re-launched by Fiat in 2008 and since then it has developed performance versions of various Fiat and Alfa Romeo cars.

Apparently, the Abarth coupe will be mid-engined and will weight around 900 kg. They hope to put a 240 hp engine under its hood, which will give it a rather good power-to-weight ratio.

We'll have more details on the new Abarth coupe as soon as the company makes them available.
