Audi RS5 Cabrio Drawings

 »  »  »

The first drawings of the Audi RS5 Cabrio surfaced the web today, as the Ingolstadt manufacturer submitted them to the trademark office. Even though it's not clear from these images, the convertible version of the Audi RS5 will probably come with a canvas soft top, which will open and close automatically. Audi has never officially confirmed that they're going to build a convertible RS5, but senior officials hinted at this possibility as far back as 2009. The Audi RS5 Cabrio will be based on the facelifted version of the high performance coupe, which had its world premiere last week, at the 2011 IAA auto show in Frankfurt.

Audi's cabrio RS5 will probably have the same 4.2-liter FSI engine as the coupe, which is good for

450 hp and 430 Nm of torque. We're not sure at the moment, but the RS5 cabrio might by a bit heavier than the coupe. This means it will have slightly less impressive performance figures. The RS5 coupe accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.6 seconds and has a top speed of 280 km/h.

The main rivals of the Audi RS5 Cabrio will be the BMW M3 convertible, and the Mercedes E63 AMG convertible, if Daimler will decide to build it.

We'll have more details on the RS5 convertible as son as Audi makes them available.
