According to a recent rumor the BMW 3 Series GT (Gran Turismo)hatchback is on the way as the German company has already approved it for production. Apparently, the BMW 3 Series GT is set to go on the production line in 2011, mimicking the lines of the recently unveiled BMW 5 Series GT.
Because the 3 Series is selling in large volumes, the company has not cancelled the plans to build the BMW 3 Series GT which might bring an important profit in difficult times.
The carmaker wants to position the BMW 3 Series GT against other top of the line station wagons and small SUV's, however, the new model will also cover a very thin line between the BMW 3 Series wagon and the upcoming X1.
To power the new BMW 3 Series GT the carmaker will use the same engine line-up as for the current model and could also add a hybrid version. The rumor says the BMW 3 Series GT price will fall between the 3 Series and the 5 Series.
