According to the British press, a BMW M5 CSL in the works which will be a lighter and more powerful version of the M5. The BMW M5 CSL will be based on the current version of the car, the E60, and will be launched as a special edition to celebrate the model's 25th anniversary. The BMW M5 CSL will be powered by the same 5.0-liter V10 engine that has been modified and now has an increased capacity of 5.5 liters. This is the largest displacement engine ever to come out of BMW's M division. The officials did not disclose the exact power and performance figures of the BMW M5 CSL, but hinted at 580 hp and just under 400lb ft of torque. The power of the BMW M5 CSL will be sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed double clutch transmission based on the on equipping the M3.
To lower the weight of the BMW M5 CSL, the company's M division has fitted it with a carbon fiber roof, that saves up to 50 kg.
The interior of the BMW M5 CSL features two new front bucket seats, but lacks a number of luxuries found in the standard car.
The BMW M5 CSL price has not been announced, nor the number of vehicles that they're going to build.
