Recent speculations said the next generation BMW M5 will be powered by a turbo engine. BMW insiders have recently confirmed the next-gen BMW M5 will be powered by a turbo engine, but they did not give any additional details on the unit. However, the logical choice for the powerplant under the hood of the future BMW M5 is the 4.4-liter turbocharged V8 engine that also hides in the X5M and X6M. This engine develops 555 hp and 500 lb.-ft. of torque.

The engine of the current BMW M5 is a 5.0-liter V10 that outputs 500 hp and 383 ft lb, so the next generation of the super sedan will have considerable more horsepower and torque. This means the performance figures of the next BMW M5 will also see an improvement.

The future BMW M5 is currently testing on the Nurburgring and we expect more details about the new version to surface soon.
