Citroen DS4 R Concept

Following a few leaked images, Citroen revealed today the DS4 Racing concept, which was scheduled for debut at the 2012 Geneva auto show. Using the same recipe as in the case of the Citroen DS3 R, the French carmaker developed a high-performance version of the regular DS4 5-door hatchback. To power the new DS4 R, Citroen is using a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine, developed by its racing division, which outputs 256 bhp. This unit has an impressive specific power of 160bhp per liter. Citroen's DS4 R concept demonstrates that it's possible to have more than 250 hp, with just 155g/km of CO2 emissions.

The high-performance engine is not the only highlight of the DS4 R. The Racing version of the DS4 also comes with a 35mm-lowered ride height and a wider track (55mm wider at the front and 75mm at the rear).

The DS4 R's brakes have also been beefed up. It comes with 380mm discs and fixed four-piston callipers on the front axle. You can't have a "Racing" version without some big wheels. The Citroen DS4 R features 19-inch alloys with 235/40 tires.

The Citroen DS4 Racing features a bespoke aerodynamic package too. It includes various carbon fiber parts, such as a rear diffuser, a front splitter and wheel arch extensions.

Even though Citroen does not mention it, we're sure they modified the DS4 Racing's interior too. We suspect it comes with sport seats, and possibly other upgrades too.

The Citroen DS4 Racing concept will probably go into production in the near future. It will be sold under the DS4 R name, just as its smaller sibling.
