Honda revealed today an even more powerful version of the Civic Type R MUGEN, called simply the 2.2. The first Honda Civic Type R MUGEN was built in only 20 units, which were sold in the UK last year. Following the success of the first version, Mugen's engineers have created an even more powerful version of the hot hatch. The Honda Civic Type R MUGEN 2.2 is powered by the same K20 2.0-litre petrol engine as its predecessor, but it outputs 260 PS and 240 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. This is 20 hp more than the first Mugen Type R and 30% more than the standard Civic Type R.

The K20 engine of the Mugen 2.2 is homologated by FIA for the Group N rally series. Last year's Type R Mugen and the Civic Mugen RR 4-foor from Japan are the only two road legal vehicles to feature it.

Apart from the extra ponies, the Civic Type R Mugen 2.2 also comes with motorsport-derived suspension system, bigger and more powerful brakes, and a new aggressive aerodynamics package.

The Honda Civic Type R MUGEN 2.2 price will be announced at a later date.
