MUGEN EURO officially confirmed today, following media speculation, that it will build the Honda Civic Type R MUGEN prototype which will be powered by the same engine from the Honda Civic MUGEN RR saloon. The Honda Civic MUGEN RR saloon was launched in 2007 in Japan. The Honda Civic Type R MUGEN will be powered by the 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine that will be tuned to output more power and torque.

Apart from the upgraded engine, the Honda Civic Type R MUGEN will also have upgraded brakes, exhaust and suspension.

The exterior of the Honda Civic Type R MUGEN will feature a new aerodynamics package with a larger rear boot spoiler.

The company said at this point the Honda Civic Type R MUGEN is just a prototype which will be brought for testing in the UK later in the year. the company said currently there aren't any plans to put it into production.

“In standard trim, the Civic Type R is a thrilling machine to drive,” said Hiro Toyoda, Vice President of MUGEN EURO. “It is a fantastic base model from which we hope to develop one of the quickest point to point front-wheel-drive road cars in the country.”
