The new Kia Niro concept had its world debut today during the opening of the 2013 Frankfurt auto show. The Kia Niro is a B-segment compact crossover destined for urban life, which measures 4,185 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width and 1,558 mm in height. It has a 2,590 mm long wheelbase and a 1,630 mm track. Some of its distinctive design elements include the dark "Nightfall" exterior, the brushed, stainless steel roof, and the low cabin glasshouse. For a more dramatic look, the Kia Niro is equipped with dihedral butterfly doors, milled Plexiglas door mirrors, a rear video camera, a carbon-fiber clad cargo deck and 20-inch alloys. To power the rear wheels of the Niro, Kia chose the 1.6-litre Gamma engine that has a horsepower output of 160ps. The engine of the Niro is mated to a 7-speed, dual-clutch transmission.

The front wheels of the Kia Niro are powered by a 45 PS electric motor which is fed electricity by the regenerative braking system.

The Kia Niro Concept has a 2+2 seating configuration, including one-piece molded front seats and a 50-50 split rear bench. Kia equipped the Niro with a leather upholstery, anodized black or Limelight aluminum trim parts, an aluminum and leather steering wheel, and a digital instrument cluster.

Kia did not mention whether or not they will put the Niro into production yet.
