Maserati revealed today in Frankfurt their hew SUV concept, called the Kubang. The Maserati Kubang is a high performance, 5-seat, luxury SUV, which will most probably go into production in the future. So far however, Maserati did not disclose any specifications regarding its engine, which means it's currently just a design exercise. They did say that the Maserati Kubang will have a high performance engine, designed by Paolo Martinelli, in Modena Italy. Martinelli is the head company's Head of Powertrain Department and previously worked as engine chief in Ferrari's Formula One racing team. The Maserati Kubang will have a 8 speed automatic transmission and performance settings for its suspension, brakes, and steering system.

The Kubang is a completely new model for Maserati - a company that never had an SUV in its line-up. However, they did premiere the Kubang concept back in 2003, at the Detroit Auto Show. The Italian luxury car manufacturer says it will further develop the Kubang in collaboration with Jeep, but the SUV's style, engine, suspensions, brakes, handling and performance will continue to be 100% Maserati.

In terms of design, the Kubang comes with a number of new features, such as LED headlight and tails lights, but at the same time it manages to remain true to its brand. The Kubang features Maserati's trademark front fascia, with the elongated nose, the signature front grille and the vents on the side of each front fender. We'll have more details on the Maserati Kubang as soon as the company makes them available.
