Morgan SP1: Specs

 »  »  »

Morgan revealed at this year's Salon Prive the SP1 (Special Project 1), which is a bespoke one-off model. The Morgan SP1 was built to showcase the carmaker's craftsmanship and flexibility. Morgan is the last British privately owned car manufacturer. The Morgan SP1 is inspired by the 2009 LifeCar concept, however, it comes with a new body and different proportions, which are meant to improve its on-road presence. The Morgan SP1 is powered by the same 3.7 liter Ford V6 engine as the one used in the Morgan V6 Roadster. This means that the SP1 develops 194 kW (280 bhp) at 6,000 rpm and 352Nm (300lb/ft) of torque. With this engine, the Roadster is able to get from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.9 seconds and it can reach a top speed of 140mph (225 km/h).

The Morgan SP1's performance figures should not be far from that.

The Morgan SP1 comes with a new suspension system, a custom Engine Management System, and a bespoke sports exhaust system. The Morgan SP1's coach-built body features a wooden frame constructed using Ash Wood and African Bubinga Red Hardwood. The Morgan SP1's aluminum body has been hand formed over a wooden 'egg box' construction, using the English wheel.

The interior of Morgan's SP1 features natural aniline leather. The SP1 comes with a very interesting starting sequence. After the car has been armed electronically, a sequence of roof mounted toggle switches are flicked to 'prepare for flight' before a final toggle switch starts the engine. Gotta love these Morgans...

The equipment list of the Morgan SP1 includes an infotainment system, driven through an iPad that has been installed in the fascia and secured by dual hand-stitched leather straps.

The Morgan SP1's price, as you can imagine, has not been disclosed.
