Toyota Attacks Pikes Peak with Electric Radical

TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH (Germany) announced today that they're going to race in this year's Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with an electric car based on a Radical chassis. Dubbed the TMG EV P002, Toyota's electric Radical is expected to reach a top speed of 240km/h, thanks to its 350kW output. The two axial flux motors are expected to offer even more performance than the first version of the vehicle, the P001, which managed to get an electric lap record on the Nurburgring last year (9.1 minutes). The TMG EV P002 is developed by Japanese company RK1 Inc. and it will be driven by rally ace Fumio Nutahara. Toyota tested the new racer on the Paul Ricard circuit and is confident about its upcoming performance in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb.

Ludwig Zeller, General Manager Electric & Electronics: “Pikes Peak is a great showcase for TMG’s electric powertrain technology. We already proved at the Nurburgring that TMG is leading the way in developing such powertrains for motorsport and this is another sign of our commitment to this technology. TMG wants to be increasingly involved in electric motorsport and we believe our powertrain technology is an industry-leading combination of performance, durability and packaging. Electric powertrain technology in motorsport is still in its development phase but through projects like this one, TMG is laying the foundations for the future of high-performance and motorsport cars.”
