Video: Volkswagen Amarok Demolition Derby

 »  »  »

In a new publicity stunt, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles UK used four Amarok pickup trucks to demolish an actual 67 meters tall steel chimney. To be able to accomplish such a task, the engineers tied the four pickup trucks and the top of the tower with steel cables. Before the actual attempt, they weakened the base of the chimney to make it will fall on an open stretch of land. At a signal, the four VW Amarok pickups revved their engines and pulled simultaneously. As you can imagine, the 140 ton structure came tumbling down in a huge cloud of dust.

The Volkswagen Amarok units used for this commercial are powered by the 2.0-liter TDI engine that's good for 161 hp and 400 Nm of torque. We're not certain at the moment,

but the Amarok pickups seem to be equipped with four-wheel-drive systems.

Volkswagen made this stunt to mark the launch of the Amarok on the British market. Watch their promotional attempt in the video lower down this page.
