Volkswagen Amarok Canyon

The Volkswagen Amarok Canyon was presented at this year's Geneva auto show as a new pick-up truck design concept. The Amarok Canyon has a more rugged look than the regular pickup and it is configured to serve as a support vehicle for freestyle kayaking. Volkswagen's Amarok Canyon is wider and taller than the regular model. Its body was raised by 40 mm, while the whole pick-up is 85 mm taller than the regular Amarok. The Canyon version of the Amarok comes equipped with auxiliary headlights mounted on the cabin, darkened taillights, underbody protection plates, and electrically deployed tread plates on each side.

In order to accommodate 275/65 R 18 AT tires, VW had to make the Amarok Canyon's wheel arches 35 mm wider.

This gives the pick-up a more planted appearance. To complete the "kayaking" look Volkswagen also equipped the Amarok Canyon with two carbon fiber kayaks. Don't worry! The VW Amarok Canyon is able to hold all your helmets, flotation devices and paddles securely in various storing spaces.

At the interior, VW's Canyon Amarok features a leather upholstery, and instruments which show the climbing and tilt angles of the concept.

To power the Canyon Amarok, Volkswagen chose the 2.0 TDI bi-turbo engine, which is good for 180 PS and 400 Nm of torque between 1,500-2,250 rpm. As you can imagine, the Amarok Canyon is equipped with VW's 4MOTION all-wheel drive system, a reduction gearbox and differential lock at the rear axle.

The Volkswagen Amarok Canyon is currently just a concept, but the German carmaker might put it into production in the future.
