Chevrolet unveiled today the Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition and announced a 60th Anniversary Package which will be available for the 2013MY version of the sports car. Chevy's 2013 Corvette 427 Collector Edition, together with the new package, will be auctioned at Barrett Jackson in Scottsdale, Arizona, on January 21. Both will go on sale this summer, at a currently unspcified price. Chevrolet claims that the 427 Collector Edition is the fastest convertible Corvette ever made. It borrows elements from both the Z06 and the ZR1, including the 427-cubic-inch (7.0L) LS7 engine of the Z06. The Chevy Corvette 427 is rated at 505 hp (377 kW) and 470 lb.-ft. of torque (637 Nm). For the more technical segment of out readers, we have to mention that the 427 Collector Edition is equipped with titanium connecting rods and intake valves, racing-inspired high-flow cylinder heads and dry-sump lubrication. Also taken from the Z06, are the 427 Collector Edition's rear axle, battery, and the Magnetic Selective Ride Control. The ZR1 gives a helping hand with its Michelin PS2 tires and alloys. To reduce the weigh of the 2013 Corvette 427 Collector Edition, Chevrolet uses several carbon fiber parts. These include the raised hood, the fenders and the floor panels. The front splitter and rocker panels of the 2013 Corvette 427 are also made from carbon, but they come as optional extras. Thanks to these lightweight parts, the 427 Collector Edition 2013 weighs just 3,355 pounds (1,522 kg). This means it has a power-to-weight ratio of 6.64. The 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition is rated with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 3.8 seconds and with a quarter-mile time of 11.8 seconds. Chevrolet says it can top 190 mph and that it can generate up to 1.04 g during cornering. The price of the 2013 Corvette 427 will be announced at a later date.
