The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible had its world debut today at the 2013 Geneva motor show. The convertible version of the 2014 Corvette Stingray comes with a fully electronic retractable soft-top that can be operated remotely using the car's key. The 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible's top can be opened or closed at speeds of up to 30 mph (50 km/h). Unfortunately, Chevrolet did not announce how much time it takes for the 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible's top to open or close. The 2014 convertible Stingray is basically the same as the coupe. The only changes include the repositioned safety belt mounts and the space required for storing the top when opened. Usually, convertible versions are heavier than the coupe sibling, however.
Chevrolet says that the 2014 Stingray convertible did not require any additional structural reinforcements, which means that it has the same weight as the coupe. They say that the aluminum frame structure of the 2014 Stingray convertible is 57% stiffer and 99 pounds (45 kg) lighter than the current steel frame.
The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible is powered by the same 6.2-liter V8 engine as the coupe. It develops 450-hp (335 kW) and 450 lb-ft of torque (610 Nm).
The engine is mated to a 7-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Matching. The new Stingray Convertible (2014) is able to get from nought to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds and it has a fuel economy of 13.6L/100km (EPA-estimated highway fuel economy of 26 mpg).
Chevrolet equips the 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible with direct injection, Active Fuel Management and continuously variable valve timing. The 2014 Stingray Convertible is also equipped with HID and LED lights, a leather, carbon and aluminum interior, and dual eight-inch configurable driver/infotainment screens.
The new convertible Stingray (2014) has a 50/50 weight distribution thanks to a carbon fiber hood, composite fenders, doors and rear quarter panels and carbon-nano composite underbody panels.
Just as the coupe, the 2014 Stingray convertible can be ordered with the Z51 Performance Package. This pack includes an electronic limited-slip differential, dry-sump oiling system, integral brake, differential and transmission cooling and improved aerodynamics.
The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible's price and availability have not been announced yet.
