ABT Sportsline revealed recently their upgrade program for the latest version of the Volkswagen Golf R (2014), which is based on the seventh generation of the popular hatchback. The ABT Volkswagen Golf R is powered by the 2.0 TSI turbocharged engine, which has been upgraded and it now develops 370 hp (272 kW) and 460 Nm of torque. This is 70 hp and 80 Nm of torque more than the standard version of the VW Golf R. Thanks to the extra ponies, the new ABT Golf R is able to accelerate from zero to 62 mph (100 km/k) in 4.5 seconds and to reach a top speed of 265 km/h. The standard version of the 2014 Golf R needs 5.1 seconds to reach the 62 mph (100 km/h) and it is limited to a top speed of 250 km/h. The extra power comes from a reprogrammed ECU, which manages to keep the hatch's fuel consumption at the same level as it had when it exited the factory.

The ABT Volkswagen Golf R is fitted with a new front bumper, a front splitter, a new grille, "eyelids" for the headlights, modified side skirts, a new rear bumper with an integrated diffuser and a roof spoiler. The rear hatch has also been modified. So far, ABT did not announce any interior upgrades for the 2014 VW Golf R. The ABT Volkswagen Golf R's price is going to be announced at a later date.
