Audi revealed today the Crosslane Coupe concept during the opening day of the 2012 Paris motor show. The Audi Crosslane Coupe showcases two of the company’s latest innovations, as well as a new body style. The Crosslane Coupe features a Multimaterial Space Frame chassis and it's powered by a dual-mode hybrid powertrain. The Crosslane Coupe's styling offers a glimpse into Audi's future design language. The Crosslane Coupe's Multimaterial Space Frame is made from Multi-material aluminum, Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) and Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP). This helps keep the weight of the concept as low as 1,390 kg (3,064.43 lb), including the large lithium-ion battery.
The Audi Crosslane Coupe's dual-mode hybrid system includes an internal combustion engine, two electric motors and a single-stage transmission, which work together to output 177PS. This new powertrain includes a 3-cylinder 1.5 liter petrol engine (130PS and 200 Nm / 147.51 lb-ft of torque), an electric motor (68PS and 210 Nm / 154.89 lb-ft of torque) that acts as an alternator and a second electric motor (116PS and 250 Nm / 184.39 lb-ft of torque) for traction.
With this powertrain, the Audi Crosslane Coupe is able to get from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 8.6 seconds (9.8 seconds in electric mode) and to reach a top speed of 182 km/h (113.09 mph).
Here comes the really interesting part. Audi claims that the average fuel consumption of the Crosslane Coupe is 213.81 US mpg / 256.8mpg UK mpg / 1.1 liters per 100 km. Its CO2 emissions are rated at 26 grams per km (41.84 grams per mile). In electric mode, the Crosslane Coupe has a range of up to 86 km (53.44 miles).
The Audi Crosslane Coupe has a 2+2 seating configuration and it measures 4.21 m in length, 1.88 m in width and 1.51 m in height, while having a 2.56 m wheelbase. It comes with Audi Matrix LED headlights, and a removable CFRP roof.
So far, Audi did not mention anything about putting the Crosslane Coupe into production, but we have a strong belief that it previews the future Q2.
