General Motors announced today the Cadillac ATS engines, and mentioned that the new sedan will have its debut at the 2012 NAIAS in Detroit next month. Cadillac's ATS will come with a high-performance 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine, with an output of 270 hp (201 kW) and 260 lb-ft. (353 Nm) of torque between 1,500 rpm and 5,800 rpm. This means that the Cadillac ATS 2.0T will have 135 horsepower per liter. The 2.0T version of the ATS features a direct-injection system with twin-cams and four valves per cylinder, continuously variable valve timing, and a twin-scroll turbocharger with an air-to-air intercooler.

The ATS's two-liter engine also comes with a forged-steel crankshaft with modular balance shaft system and a two-stage variable-displacement oil pump with jet-spray piston cooling.

Cadillac says that they managed to reduce the friction in the new 2-liter engine by up to 16 percent. This results in a more efficient power delivery. Cadillac also claims that they eliminated turbo lag almost entirely, thanks to the 20 pounds of boost coming from the turbo.

Apart from the 2.0-liter turbo engine, the Cadillac ATS will also be available with a choice between a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a 3.6-liter V6. The specifications of these units will be announced at a later date.
