The new Cadillac ELR (2014), which is a new four-seat two-door coupe based on the Converj concept, had its debut at the 2013 NAIAS in Detroit. The Cadillac ELR is powered with the help of GM's EREV technology, which includes an electric drive unit, helped by a 1.4-liter gasoline range extender engine. The 1.4-liter internal combustion engine of the Cadillac ELR develops 84 hp at 4800 rpm, while the electric drive motor, which drives the coupe's front wheels, develops between 117 kW and 135 kW. The generator motor outputs 55 kW. Cadillac says that the new ELR has a total power output of 154 kW (207 hp) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. So far Cadillac did not announce the 0-60 mph acceleration time of the ELR, however, they do say it has a top speed of 100 mph (160 km/h).

The electric only range of the Cadillac ELR is rated at 35 miles (56 km). Its range extender engine can take it up to 300 miles / 480 km. The Cadillac ELR can be recharged in 4.5 hours from a dedicated 240V outlet, but you can also use a 120V outlet, which is going to take longer.

The Cadillac ELR has four driving modes. The Tour mode is the default one. You can also set it in Mountain mode, in Hold mode to direct it to use the gas-powered electric generator or in Sport mode.



The Cadillac ELR comes equipped with a HiPer Strut front suspension, a semi-independent rear compound-crank suspension, electric power steering, regenerative braking and Regen on Demand.

The equipment list of the ELR includes Cadillac's CUE system with the integrated Navigation system, LED headlights and tail lights, and all the safety systems you would expect from a modern premium vehicle.

UPDATE: Cadillac announced today that the ELR is able to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds in the in range-extending mode (8.8 seconds in EV mode) and that it can reach a top speed of 106 mph (170 km/h). The Cadillac ELR is rated with a 33 mpg combined fuel economy and 82 MPGe in EV mode.
