Infiniti revealed today the EMERG-E concept during their press conference held at the opening of the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. The EMERG-E, which previews the future of the brand, is Infiniti's first concept to be entirely developed in Europe. It has a mid-engine rear-wheel-drive architecture and it's powered by twin electric motors. The EMERG-E outputs a total of 300kW (402bhp) at 3,500rpm and an amazing 1000Nm of torque at 2500rpm. To send the power to the wheels, the concept uses an Xtrac Single-speed 4.588:1 reduction box, while the electricity is provided by Lithium-ion phosphate batteries. The performance figures of the Infiniti EMERG-E match its looks precisely. The 0-60 mph acceleration time is rated at 4.0 seconds and the 0-130 mph sprint at 30 seconds.

The Infiniti EMERG-E can run on electricity only for a maximum of 30 miles. After that, a range-extender gasoline engine takes over the electricity production with just 55g/km of CO2 emissions. The petrol engine is a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder unit developed by Lotus. It's able to deliver 35kW between 1,500 and 4,000 rpm. With the range extender engine enables, the EMERG-E can run for up to 300 miles.

The Infiniti EMERG-E is a 175.7-inch (4.464m) long two-seater sports car, which could one day become a production vehicle.

It's built upon an extruded aluminum chassis and it has carbon fiber panels. With this construction method, Infiniti managed to keep the weight of the EMERG-E at 3,523 pounds. Apart from being light, the concept is also very aerodynamic. Infiniti says it has a Cd of 0.34 and that its body is actually generating positive downforce. Infiniti's EMERG-E comes with a double-wishbone suspension system and seriously powerful brakes.

For the interior of the EMERG-E, Infiniti used a combination between carbon fiber / Alcantara surfaces and sculptural design language. The concept features a touch-screen display, sport bucket seats and various lights, which create a spaceship atmosphere.

Maybe one day we'll be able to see this beauty at our local Infiniti dealership.
