The next generation A Class is getting closer and closer to its debut and today the Mercedes A Class AMG is rumored to see the light of day in the near future. Don't expect the Mercedes A Class AMG to get the 500+ hp 6.2 liter V8, nor the new 5.5-liter unit. It will mean we will have a 500+ hp hatchback! The hardcore Mercedes A Class AMG will get a smaller 4-cylinder engine that's expected to output around 270 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque. We guess it will be enough since it will fall in the same power category as the Megane RS, Astra VXR and Golf GTI. The new engine on the AMG A Class will be equipped with direct injection and maybe a turbo or a supercharger. The exact details are scarce at the moment. However, the British press, believes the Mercedes A Class AMG will be the first to get the
wave-pulse supercharger technology from Hyprex. The car will also be equipped with a dual-clutch gearbox.
The Mercedes A Class AMG however, will be a step ahead of the hot hatches mentioned before, as it's expected to be equipped with all-wheel-drive. It's not certain at the moment if the new AMG hot hatch will be a five-door or a three-door model.
The Mercedes A Class AMG price is not known yet, obviously, but the high performance hatch is expected in dealerships after the new generation model goes on sale in 2012.
