Honda announced today the specs and power output of the Mugen CR-Z. Previously, Honda said the Mugen CR-Z was powered by a 1.6-liter engine, however, today they've announced it has a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol unit, developing 200 PS and 181lb.ft of torque. To get the extra power out of the hybrid powertrain of the Honda CR-Z, Mugen installed a supercharger which helped raise the output by 50%. apart from that, the internals of CR-Z's engine have been strengthened and upgraded.

Honda's Mugen CR-Z also features another innovation - the MUGEN iCF system. Unfortunately, the Japanese car maker is not very clear about what does this system actually do.

They only say it helps all the elements of the electro-mechanical system to work in harmony.

Talking about the Mugen Honda CR-Z, Colin Whittamore said: "The idea was to use the significant advantage of the early torque provided by the Honda IMA electric motor, then increase the torque available from the petrol engine gradually, to first maintain and then increase this. A supercharger and complementary electronics allow us to very neatly map the IMA to the extra power and torque of the engine in a unique package, giving a smooth, integrated and powerful driving experience."

Apart from the extra power, the Mugen Honda CR-Z also received 5-step adjustable dampers for both axles, a wider track and went through a weight saving program.

Honda will announce the price of the CR-Z Mugen at a later date. The world debut of the more powerful Mugen Honda CR-Z will take place at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July.
