In their latest comparison test video, the British journalists from Autocar are trying to figure out if the new Porsche Cayman R is really any better than the Cayman S. As you are probably expecting, they took the Cayman R and the S to the track, to see which one of them is the better Porsche.
The Cayman R and the S look practically identical to the untrained eye, so why did Porsche feel the need to launch the more expensive R version? The Porsche Cayman R is powered by the 3.4-litre six-cylinder engine, which is tuned to output 330 hp. The car weighs only 2855 lb (1,295 kilograms). So, Porsche's Cayman R offers more power with less weight. In performance figures, the Cayman R needs 4.9 seconds for the 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h)
acceleration when equipped with the PDK transmission and 5 seconds when using the manual gearbox. The top speed of the manual Cayman R is rated at 175 mph (282 km/h) while the double-clutch version is rated at 174 mph (280 km/h).
In the case of the Cayman R, Porsche lowered the center of gravity by 20 mm, and mounted a new spoiler. Porsche will charge you 69,830 EU for a Cayman R.
