Skoda announced today that their new compact hatchback will be called the Rapid. The Skoda Rapid was unveiled for the first time at last year's Frankfurt auto show as the Mission L concept. Skoda says that the Rapid will go into production by the end of this year, and that it will go on sale in Europe and various Asian markets. Unfortunately, Skoda did not disclose any actual details regarding the Rapid, which leaves room for some speculations. We assume that the Skoda Rapid will be sold with the usual range of petrol and diesel engines offered by the Czech carmaker. The Rapid will get a front-wheel-drive system, and a choice between a manual and an automatic transmission.
If the Rapid will follow Skoda's philosophy, it will be practical, inexpensive and it will offer good mileage.
However, don't expect to get a premium vehicle. The Skoda Rapid will probably be priced below the 20,000 EUR mark.
