Subaru Impreza WRX STI Isle of Man Record Video

Subaru released today the first video showing their successful attempt at setting a new speed record on the Isle of Man TT race circuit. This month, Subaru managed to crush the 21-year-old speed record of the TT circuit, which was set by Tony Pond on 6 June 1990. He managed to set the record of the 37.8-mile long course while driving a Rover 827 Vitesse. Pond also managed to become the first driver to go past the 100mph average speed barrier of the track.

The new Isle of Man TT record was set by British Rally Champion Mark Higgins at 19 minutes and 56.7 seconds. His Subaru Impreza WRX STI ran with an average speed of 113 mph and at a certain point managed a top speed of 162 mph.

The company says that the only difference between the record setting car and the standard 2011 Subaru Impreza STI are the springs and dampers, which have been set to absorb the bumps of the circuit.

Watch the Higgins set the new speed record of the Isle of Man TT track in a 2011 Subbie STI in the video below.
