Toyota GT 86 Convertible Concept

Toyota revealed today in Geneva the GT 86 Convertible concept, which is called the FT-86 Open concept. The Toyota GT 86 Convertible is going to have a fabric retractable roof with a glass rear screen and a 2+2 seating configuration. Toyota says that the retractable roof of the convertible GT 86 is going to have a minimal impact on the car's luggage capacity. The roof is going to be stored behind the rear seats. Usually, convertible versions are a bit heavier than the coupes. This is because they require extra reinforcement to maintain the body's rigidity. These extra reinforcements add the vehicle's weight and reduce its performance. We're pretty sure that the GT86 convertible also has these reinforcements. However, Toyota did not disclose any details regarding their weight.

Just as the coupe, the GT 86 Convertible comes with a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter horizontally opposed boxer engine with D-4S injection. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with a paddle shifting speed of 0.2 seconds. The Convertible GT86 is equipped with MacPherson strut front and double wishbone rear suspension and electric power steering with a 13.1 gear ratio. It promises a 53:47 weight distribution.

Even though Toyota doesn't officially mention it, we're pretty sure that the GT 86 Convertible concept will go into production in the near future.
