Toyota GT 86 Convertible Teased

 »  »  »

Toyota released today a teaser image of the convertible version of the GT 86, which is going to have its world debut at the 2013 Geneva Auto Show. As you're probably expecting, the Japanese carmaker did not release a whole lot of details about the GT 86 convertible. In fact, the car you're going to see in Geneva is named the FT-86 Open, like the concept that gave birth to the GT 86. Toyota says about the FT-86 Open that it's a "possible future development of the award-winning GT86 sports coupe". This means that they're expecting to see the customers' reaction before taking a decision to put it into production. Even though Toyota did not say anything official, we can make a few speculations.

The convertible version of the GT 86 will probably have the same engine as the coupe. This means it's going to be powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine good for 200 hp and 205 Nm of torque. Usually, convertible versions are a bit heavier than the models they're based on. So, the GT 86 cabrio will probably be a bit slower than the coupe. We'll have more details about the Toyota GT 86 convertible as soon as they're available.
