The new generation 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible has just been revealed today, ahead of its global debut, which is going to take place at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, in November. The new 2013 VW Beetle Convertible continues the tradition of a fabric soft-top that opens automatically. Volkswagen says that the 2013 Beetle Cabrio's soft-top opens and closes in around 10 seconds, and that it can be operated at speeds of up to 30 mph (48 km/h). Since it's based on the latest version of the popular model, the 2013 Beetle Convertible is going to have a much flatter roof than its predecessor, which should offer more room for the rear passengers. Since this is a convertible, Volkswagen equipped the new 2013 Beetle cabriolet with an active rollover protection system.

This system features two extendable elements hidden behind the rear seats that spring into position in a matter of milliseconds in case the car rolls over.

One problem with convertibles is that the roof takes a lot of boot space when opened. VW's 2013 Beetle Convertible offers 225 liters of luggage space and it comes with a fold-down symmetrically split rear bench.

Volkswagen is going to sell the new Beetle Convertible (2013) with a range of petrol and diesel engines. These include a 1.2-litre TSI with 105 PS, a 1.4-litre TSI (160 PS), a 2.0 TSI (200 PS), 1.6-litre TDI with 105 PS (also available as a BlueMotion Technology version) and a 2.0-litre TDI with 140 PS.

In the United States, VW will sell the 2013 Beetle Convertible with a different range of engines. These include a 2.5-liter five-cylinder gasoline engine with 170 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque, which is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, and a 2.0-liter TDI Clean Diesel with 140 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque that's coupled with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The 2.0 TDI version promises 41 mpg on the highway. The new Beetle Convertible (2013) will also be available in the U.S. with a 2.0-liter turbocharged TSI engine that puts out 200 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque. VW will sell the new Beetle cabriolet (2013) with the optional DSG transmission too.

The 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible's price for Europe starts at €21,350. The prices for the UK and the USA markets have not been announced yet. The new Beetle Convertible (2013) will go on sale in Europe this November, in the UK in the spring of 2013 and in the USA in the last quarter of 2012.
