Volkswagen revealed today the Beetle GSR, which is the sportiest version of the model ever built. The world premiere of the Volkswagen Beetle GSR is going to take place at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show and the German carmaker is planning to build only 3,500 of them. Volkswagen power the new GSR Beetle with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that's good for 210 PS (155 kW) and 280 Nm of torque between 1,700 rpm and 5,200 rpm. The engine of the Beetle GSR may be coupled with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or the six-speed DSG automatic transmission. With this engine, the VW Beetle GSR is able to accelerate from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 7.3 seconds and to reach a top speed of 142 mph (229 km/h). In terms of efficiency, Volkswagen's Beetle GSR is rated with a 7.3 l/100 km (approx. 38.7 mpg) fuel economy on the combined cycle.

The two-tone yellow and black exterior finish of the GSR is inspired by the Beetle 1303 S, which was launched almost 40 years ago. The Volkswagen Beetle GSR is equipped with the R-Line exterior package, which includes distinctive front and rear bumpers, a rear spoiler and a diffuser. It features two exhaust tailpipes, one on each side, and it sits on 19-inc alloys.

At the interior, the Beetle GSR comes with sports seats (covered in fabric for the EU versions and black leather on the USA one), a leather sports steering wheel, a distinctive gear stick, and a leather handbrake lever.

The Volkswagen Beetle GSR's price is set at € 30,300 and VW says it's going to put it on sale this May.
