Volkswagen revealed at the 2014 NAIAS show in Detroit the new Beetle Dune concept, which aims to be a Baja Bug for the 21st Century. The Volkswagen Beetle Dune is based on the R-Line version of the popular model and it's powered by the 2.0 TSI four-cylinder engine that's good for 210 hp. The VW Beetle Dune is equipped with the 6-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission and it promises a fuel economy of 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. As in the case of the regular version, the Beetle Dune comes with front wheel drive, a strut-type front suspension and a multilink rear one and an electronic XDS differential. The Dune concept previews the sportiest version of the Volkswagen Beetle ever produced.

The Dune Beetle is finished in yellow-orange metallic and it features two-part 1.1-inch wide wheel arch extensions with 0.06-inch-thick gloss black blades. Volkswagen's Dune Beetle is 0.5 inch longer and 2.0-imch taller than the regular R-Line version of the coupe.

The Volkswagen Beetle Dune comes with 19-inch alloys, brushed aluminum sill trim panels, Bi-Xenon headlights, logos, a new hood with vents for cooling the engine bay, a new front apron, and aluminum underbody protection. At the rear, the Beetle Dune features a special spoiler that allows you to carry skis or snowboards.

For the interior of the Beetle Dune, Volkswagen chose a high-resolution 7.7-inch touchscreen, an AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic LED) display, a Titan Black leather upholstery and various other trim parts.
