Volkswagen revealed today in Chicago the new Beetle Rallycross, which is going to be raced by 2011 and 2012 GRC champion Tanner Foust and ex-F1 and NASCAR star Scott Speed in the 2014 Red Bull Global Rallycross series. The world debut of the Volkswagen Beetle GRC is going to take place at the Summer X Games in Austin, Texas. The Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team is going to compete at first in modified Polo rally cars built on the chassis that won the 2013 World Rally Championship. The new Volkswagen Beetle Rallycross is based on the third generation of the model (the new one). It comes with a 560 hp turbocharged TSI engine and an all-wheel-drive system. In comparison to the standard Beetle, the Rallycross version comes with a wide body kit, new front and rear bumpers, side skirts, and a massive double rear wing.

There's also a central exhaust system and set of competition rims and tires. Even though it can't be seen in these images, the new Rallycross Beetle is probably also equipped with a full roll cage, bucket seats and various other racing bits and pieces.

We'll have more details about the Rallycross VW Beetle as soon as they're available.
